2026 NAC Student & Recent Graduate Scholarship Application

Up to $500 for Your Flight to Washington, DC

FAPA is offering a travel scholarship for current students and recent graduates attending the 2026 National Advocacy Conference (NAC) in Washington, DC. This scholarship is intended to help make NAC more accessible, equitable, and nationally representative — no matter where you are traveling from.

Why We Are Offering This Scholarship

Expand access for students and recent graduates who may otherwise face financial barriers to attending NAC.
Encourage broader regional representation from across the country.
Support emerging leaders interested in policy, public service, civic engagement, grassroots advocacy, and U.S.-Taiwan relations.
Help participants fully engage in NAC programming and advocacy activities.

Rules

The scholarship strictly covers airfare to and from Washington, DC, up to $500.
Any airfare cost exceeding $500 must be covered by the applicant.
The scholarship cannot be used for upgrades, hotels, meals, or other add-on expenses.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

Be a current U.S. college or university student (undergraduate or graduate school), either full-time or part-time, or a recent graduate from the class of 2025 or 2026.
Register to attend NAC and participate in its entirety, including Monday.
Travel by airplane from within the United States to Washington, DC.
Provide proof of current enrollment or graduation, as well as a receipt for flight expenses.
Not receiving travel subsidies from a local FAPA chapter.

Priority will be given to applicants traveling more than 200 miles to Washington, DC.

Rebuilding Taiwan’s Democratic Defense Through Politics and Education

We area thrilled to announce our next featured speaker! Join us in welcoming political commentator, attorney, and media host Roy Liu (劉珞亦) for a critical conversation on Taiwan’s future.

Roy Liu wears many hats—practicing attorney, Director of Communications for Plain Law Movement, host of the popular podcasts “法客電台” and “Roy’s Non-stop (珞亦不絕),” and host of the Public Television Service program “The Theme Night Show.”

As an expert “knowledge translator,” Roy is dedicated to bridging gaps and fighting misinformation, and he is a “knowledge translator” for public issues. He firmly believes that when citizens are equipped with basic legal literacy, they are empowered to reject shallow political discourse and resist the influence of disinformation. A master communicator, Roy will share how his extensive media experience and social observations have shown him the profound ways in which the rule of law and our social environments truly define our daily lives.

The FAPA National Advocacy Conference brings the voices of FAPA members around the U.S. to our nation’s Capital. The NAC program is an opportunity to:

Learn about current U.S.-Taiwan bills going through Congress.
Make your voices heard with your Congressional Representatives and Senators.
Connect with FAPA advocates from across the country.

Program

Participants learn about grassroots advocacy strategies, U.S.-Taiwan policy, and FAPA’s legislative priorities. After the two-day workshop, participants will advocate for U.S.–Taiwan legislation on Capitol Hill on Monday, with optional advocacy days on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Children

Are children allowed to register for and participate in the conference?

Unfortunately, FAPA does not offer child registration for NAC. The policy curriculum leading up to the Advocacy Day is designed for participants with some prior exposure to civics and government. We recommend that registrants be at least high school age.

Hotel Arrangements

What hotel arrangements does FAPA cover?

FAPA covers a shared double room (two beds) for two nights for each participant. Each participant will be assigned a roommate during the main conference programming on Saturday and Sunday nights.

Roommates

Will I have a roommate?

Yes. During the main conference programming, all participants will be assigned a roommate for Saturday and Sunday nights by default.

I would like to room with a specific person. How do I request a specific roommate?

If you would like to room with a specific person, please obtain their consent first.
Both participants should indicate each other’s names in the registration form.
If you plan to arrive earlier or stay beyond the main conference dates, you will be responsible for making your own room arrangements for those additional nights.

How do I request a private room with no assigned roommate? How do I pay?

If you would like a private room with no assigned roommate, please indicate this request in the registration form.
You will be responsible for the price difference. The rate is $306.11 per night for a standard room (discounted group rate plus tax) on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
For those who’re planning on staying for our optional Advocacy Days on Tuesday and Wednesday:
- Rate for Monday Night: $601.8 per room (tax included)
- Rate for Tuesday Night: $648.2 per room (tax included)
Payment for the additional room cost should be made directly to the hotel at check-in.
You are also welcome to arrange your own hotel or accommodations for any additional nights before or after the main conference, specifically, Friday, Monday, and Tuesday nights. Please indicate accordingly in the registration form.

Arriving Early or Staying Longer

I plan to arrive early and/or stay longer for the optional advocacy days. How do I reserve my room?

Participants are responsible for covering the cost of any additional hotel nights outside of the two nights covered by FAPA.

Attending the Conference

Do I have to participate in all three days of the conference?

Yes. Full participation is required for the National Advocacy Conference (NAC). The ultimate goal of the conference is to visit Capitol Hill and make our voices heard, so all participants are expected to fully participate in all scheduled programming and congressional meetings.

What time will the conference end on Monday?

Please plan to stay until 5:00 PM on Monday. Each team will have a different schedule for congressional visits on Capitol Hill, and participants are required to attend all scheduled meetings as part of the conference. Please arrange your travel accordingly.

About the Program

The FAPA Advocacy Captains Program will train community leaders nationwide in grassroots advocacy. We are looking for individuals who can:

Organize and mobilize local chapter members for advocacy efforts.
Dedicate time and effort to advocacy at the local, state, and federal levels.
Schedule and lead meetings with elected officials.
Participate in in-district events hosted by Members of Congress (MoC), like attending town hall meetings.
Communicate effectively with HQ and chapter members.

By the end of the program, captains will know how to:

Communicate legislative priorities to strengthen U.S.-Taiwan relations.
Lead and coordinate advocacy visits in districts and D.C.

2024 National Advocacy Conference

We are delighted to invite you to FAPA’s annual National Advocacy Conference (NAC).

The FAPA NAC brings the voices of FAPA members around the U.S. to our nation’s Capital. The NAC program is an opportunity to:

Connect with U.S.-Taiwan policy experts, FAPA HQ staff, and members from other chapters.
Learn about the inner workings of Capitol Hill, how U.S.-Taiwan policies are formulated, and grassroots advocacy strategy.
Advocate for pro-Taiwan policies, speak about the issues you care about, and engage with your Congressional Representatives and Senators.

Program

Participants learn about grassroots advocacy strategies, U.S.-Taiwan policy, and FAPA’s issues of concern. After the two-day workshop, participants will apply the knowledge and skills they have acquired to advocate for pro-Taiwan bills and initiatives on Capitol Hill on Monday, September 9.

Saturday: Keynote Speaker and Banquet
Sunday: Panels, Grassroots Advocacy Strategies, and Team Practice
Monday: Congressional Advocacy Day!

Event Check-in Time: 2pm, Saturday September 7
Location: To be announced closer to the date of the event. For your planning purposes, the event will be at a hotel in Arlington, Virginia.
Hotel Check-in Time:4 p.m. (ET) on Sept. 6 or 7.

Registration Information

Registration Fee: $100/person
This event is only open to FAPA members. If you are not yet a member, please join before registering.

Registration Deadline: August 7, 2024
Prompt registration is encouraged as seats are limited. Once registered, we will send you the group assignments with training materials to help with the advocacy.

The registration fee includes:

Two nights of accommodations,
Saturday night banquet,
Sunday breakfast and lunch,
Monday breakfast,
Incredible program of speakers and presenters.

*If you include a spouse in your registration and they are participating in NAC, please remember to account for their registration fee ($100/person) when making the payment.

Room and board are for NAC participants ONLY. If your spouse and/or children are not be participating, they are responsible for their portion of room and board.

Congressional Day Prep

Once registered, we will send you the group assignments with training materials to help with advocacy day planning.

Full participation

Full participation in the National Advocacy Conference is crucial to ensuring the success of our Congressional Advocacy Day on Monday. Therefore, we ask everyone to attend the conference in its entirety.

The FAPA NAC is a unique opportunity to participate in grassroots advocacy. While it may seem daunting, we will prepare you to be the best possible advocacy champion. If there are any questions regarding the 2024 National Advocacy Conference, please contact Vanessa Chen at vanessachen@fapa.org.

FAQ

1. Can I request a single room? How do I pay?
Yes. FAPA covers a double room for two nights for each participant. If you would like to have a single room, FAPA will cover one night of your stay, and you will be responsible for covering the other night of the stay. You will pay at the counter when you check in.

2. I plan to arrive a day early to get ready for the conference. Can FAPA help arrange the accommodation?
Yes, we certainly can! Though you will have to be responsible for the cost of the night, we are happy to provide our group rate. Just email Vanessa Chen at vanessachen@fapa.org if you have such a request.

3. Do I have to participate in all three days of the conference?
Yes. The ultimate goal of this conference is to visit Capitol Hill and make our voices heard, so it’s important that everyone participates fully. If you have any concerns, feel free to contact us.

4. What time will the conference end on Monday?
It depends on when your team’s meeting with the congressional office is. Typically, meetings wrap up around noon, while some finish in the early afternoon. This can be discussed among your team, which we will announce at a later time.
