EMERGING LEADERS WORKSHOP

An Opportunity for Taiwanese Young Professionals to Learn U.S.-Taiwan Policy in D.C.

Program Overview

Since 2010, FAPA has organized the FAPA Emerging Leaders Workshop normally every two years. This week-long Workshop invites outstanding Taiwanese young talents around the world to Washington, D.C. to learn about U.S.-Taiwan-China relations and exchange views with each other. FAPA has cultivated more than 150 emerging leaders thus far, including Member of LY Wang Ting-yu, City Councilors Ying-meng Lin, and Jiho Chang.

Program Fee

FREE. FAPA will pay for the accommodations and meals for the participants during the Workshop. Participants need to cover the round-trip travel costs to Washington, D.C.

Ideal Candidates

We look for Taiwanese young professionals or students aged from 20 to 40 who are passionate about Taiwan independence and interested in International Relations, Political Science, Public Policy, Laws, Economics, or related fields with excellent English proficiency. Professional experience will be considered an advantage. 

Steps to Apply

  1. Fill out the Google Form HERE
  2. Fill out the Application Form (downloadable PDF or Word)
  3. Email the Application Form, an English Statement of Purpose, and two recommendation letters to [email protected] by April 10, 2024. All documents should be in PDF format.

Notes

  • Admitted candidates need to submit USD$100 as a security deposit for their spots in the workshop. The full amount will be returned to them after they participate in the entire workshop. 
  • Accommodation is on a double occupancy basis. 
  • To apply for an air travel subsidy, please fill out & email the Air Travel Subsidy Application to [email protected]. Please elaborate on the reasons for applying for the subsidy in the application.
  • Air travel subsidy is NOT guaranteed to all applicants and does NOT cover the flight fares in full.

  • Does the recommendation letter need to be signed in wet ink?
    Yes. Please have your reference hand-sign the letter and scan it into a PDF file.

  • What kind of document do I need to prepare to prove my need for an air travel subsidy?
    The eligibility for the airfare subsidy is determined through a comprehensive review of the applicant’s overall performance. No additional proof is required other than the application essay.

  • Who should send the recommendation letter?
    We would prefer to have the reference send the letter directly to us. Please ask them to specify who they are writing for, and send the letter to [email protected].
