Policy Internship

 

Overview

FAPA headquarters provides paid, full-time policy research internship positions each year. FAPA interns are mainly responsible for assisting senior staffers in policy research, Congressional visits, project management, and administrative work. Students with strong interests in Taiwan-related issues or US-Taiwan relations are encouraged to apply. Both undergraduate (Junior/Senior preferred) and graduate students are welcome.

Period

  • Spring (January – March)
  • Summer (April – June)
  • Fall (July – September)
  • Winter (October – December)

In-Person positions preferred. We also welcome interns from various locations. 

Responsibilities

The duties and assignments for the internship position include but are not limited to:

  1. Assist senior staffers in Congressional visits.
  2. Conduct policy and news research on issues related to Taiwan-US-China relations.
  3. Help editing FAPA newsletter, mailings, and others.
  4. Filing and digitizing documents (including petition letters).
  5. Provide administrative support and other related duties as assigned.
  6. Publish at least one Op-Ed on Taiwan-related issues during the internship.
  7. Submit one policy proposal to senior staffers during the internship.
The applicant must be legally eligible to work in the United States. Ideal candidates will be graduate or undergraduate students with a demonstrated academic or extracurricular interest in International Relations, Political Science, Public Policy, Laws, Economics or related fields with excellent English proficiency. (Mandarin proficiency will be considered as an advantage.)

Communication & Development Internship

 

Overview

FAPA headquarters is looking for a Communications and Development Intern with non-profit management background that has a great passion in working for US-Taiwan relations.

Period

  • Spring (January – March)
  • Summer (April – June)
  • Fall (July – September)
  • Winter (October – December)

In-Person positions preferred. We also welcome interns from various locations.

Responsibilities

The duties and assignments for the internship position include but are not limited to:

  1. Conduct research on potential donors (individuals, foundations, and corporations) and potential fundraising strategies.
  2. Provide ad hoc support to office and other staff members as needed, including assisting events onsite and offsite.
  3. Assist with fundraising campaigns and communications outreach through direct mail and email.
  4. Send acknowledgment letters and tax receipts to donors.
  5. Assist in coordinating community outreach such as local event and membership assistance.
  6. Help general office workflow such as greeting visitors and assisting with mailing/deliveries.
  7. Other research, writing, and administrative duties as needed.

Qualifications

  • Ability to effectively use computer applications such as MS Office and Outlook.
  •  Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud is a plus
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work respectfully and collegially in teams.
  • Experience in cause marketing and development a plus.
  • Excellent English proficiency is a must. Mandarin proficiency will be considered an advantage.

陳秩宗教授紀念實習獎學金
Professor C. T. Chen Memorial Internship

陳秩宗教授FAPA實習生獎學金由FAPA南德州分會的會員Bill Chen(陳瑞昌)博士於2018為紀念其父親,前台大化工系教授——陳秩宗博士所設立,每一年提供一位在美國讀書的博士生在FAPA實習兩個月的獎學金。希望能夠透過這個獎學金的成立傳達陳秩宗教授熱愛鄉土的精神,也繼承他作育英才的志業。

陳秩宗教授簡介

陳秩宗教授生於1922年,逝於2018年六月。是新竹一個教育世家的長子。從小就極為聰明靈敏,在校年年名列前茅。在高等學校畢業後前往日本進入京都大學工學院。二戰結束後返台進入台大化工系任教,是當時最年輕的教授。
陳教授並於1950年受台大校長推薦公費赴美進修,是早期留美學者中搭乘第一班台美航線去美國的。學成返台後,陳繼續任教於台大化工系,是全校中少數擁有美國博士學位的教授。也因此許多化工業界找他當顧問,曾經擔任津津味素、義芳/大洋塑膠、新光合纖以及日本、韓國、泰國、德國及美國多家公司的顧問。退休之後,陳教授仍與那些公司和他的學生保持美好的個人及專業上的關係,極受人尊崇。
在1970年代,陳教授受聘於Princeton University,經歷多年的研究,他發表了上百篇的學術論文,也擁有多項專利。在美期間親眼看到海外台灣人的台獨運動,加上親身經歷過228事件年代,因此台灣人的意識深植其心。

申請辦法

本獎學金頒發對象是在美各校唸法政,國際關係,外交及經濟的博士班留學生,實習時間為兩個月,每個月美金$2000。
