We are Bringing Emerging Leaders in Policy from the U.S. to Taiwan!
Program Overview
The Emerging Leaders Workshop (ELW) is our flagship program that brings emerging leaders from Taiwan to Washington, D.C. to learn about U.S.-Taiwan relations. This year, we are launching the reverse experience – bringing emerging leaders from the U.S. to Taiwan. This weeklong workshop aims to provide emerging leaders in international relations and policy with an in-depth understanding of Taiwan’s complexities by exploring history and diverse perspectives on its geopolitical, economic, security, and cultural landscape.
Eligibility
- A minimum of a master’s degree in international relations or a related field, preferably with a focus on U.S.-Taiwan policy, Taiwan studies, or Asia studies (including current graduate students or recent graduates within the last three years).
- A strong interest in pursuing a career related to U.S.-Taiwan policy.
- Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents (exceptions may be considered on a case-by-case basis for individuals who meet other eligibility criteria).
Participant Responsibilities
- Arranging and covering the cost of their own roundtrip flight to Taiwan. (Airfare subsidy is available. Learn more at info session.)
- Submitting the enrollment fee of $200 by March 26, 2025 to secure your spot on the trek.
- Committing to full participation in the seven-day itinerary.

Recommendation Letter
Please provide one letter of recommendation from a reference who can speak to your academic, professional, or community-related experiences. Your recommender should email the letter directly to [email protected] with the subject line “[Your Full Name] – Taiwan Trek Recommendation.
Recommendation Letter Deadline: March 2, 2025, at 11:59 PM ET.
Application is not considered complete without the recommendation letter.
