This bipartisan bill (H.R.1145 & S.812), which has passed the Senate and the House, directs the Secretary of State to develop a strategy to regain observer status for Taiwan at the World Health Assembly (WHA), the decision-making body of the World Health Organization (WHO).
You will find a draft letter to your Members of Congress below, thanking them for passing the legislation that supports “WHO for Taiwan.”
On April 27, 2022, the House passed the bill (H.R.1145) by a 425-0 vote, after an identical bill (S.812) passed the Senate by unanimous consent on August 6, 2021. It will now be sent to the White House where the President is expected to sign the measure into law.
Although we at FAPA believe that Taiwan should join the WHO and all other international organizations as a full member, we want to express our sincere appreciation to the House and the Senate for continuing to take up this issue year after year.
Also, in the thank you letter, we express our belief that it behooves the U.S. to tell China that if it continues to object to Taiwan’s membership in the WHO, we will send U.S. Secretary of HHS Xavier Becerra to Taiwan to get a firsthand look at Taiwan’s world-class health system.
The time is NOW for the world to jointly stand up against China’s bullying of Taiwan, and bring democratic Taiwan into all the international organizations as an independent, sovereign country.
