Several Taiwanese civic groups have launched the Team Taiwan Campaign for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, calling for a referendum aimed at replacing the clumsy title of “Chinese Taipei” used at the Olympic Games and other international sporting events with the straightforward name “Taiwan.”
台灣民間團體發起「二○二○東京奧運台灣正名公投」,希望以「台灣」之名取代現今在奧會或許多國際比賽中拗口的稱謂;而在美國的台美人則發起將台灣政府在華府的「台北經濟文化代表處」正名為「台灣代表處」,不但顯示出台灣人的心聲,也是國際上的認同。
We therefore recommend that the US administration dispatch US Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao (趙小蘭) to Taiwan to oversee US-Taiwan civil aviation cooperation, especially in areas where Taiwan and the US need to coordinate on ICAO standards and routinize information exchanges.
FAPA強烈建議美應派交通部長趙小蘭訪問台灣,監督美台民用航空合作,尤其是在台灣和美國需要協調ICAO標準和將訊息交流常態化的地區;甚至應考慮派駐一名交通官員駐台專司此職。一旦台海的現狀因此遭破壞,台北與華府都應該要立刻採取行動。
If Taiwan’s representatives have been effective and have been able to convince their counterparts to support Taiwan’s bid for an observer status in the WHA, then Taiwan would have passed the first hurdle to regaining observer status in the assembly.
