Come and meet one of Taiwan's strongest supporters: Congressman Tom Tiffany
Congressman Tom Tiffany has been representing Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives since he was elected in November 2020. Since day one, he has been one of Taiwan’s strongest and most outspoken and daring supporters in the U.S. House of Representatives.
A couple of highlights:
Within a couple of weeks after becoming a Representative, on February 26, 2021, the Congressman introduced H.Con.Res.21 calling for the United States to resume normal diplomatic relations with Taiwan, to end the One China Policy, and to conclude a U.S.-Taiwan Free Trade Agreement.
On May 7, 2021, Congressman Tom Tiffany (R-WI) tweeted a thank you note from his official Congressional Twitter account thanking FAPA for having helped get 50,000 face masks from Taiwan to his Wisconsin district earlier that year.
On July 28, 2021, Tiffany took to the floor of the House of Representatives in support of his Taiwan amendment to the State Department Authorization Act which read: “Prohibits the expenditure of funds to create, procure or display any map that depicts Taiwan as part of the People’s Republic of China.” On March 15, 2022, President Joe Biden signed the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2022 into law which included the ban with some amendments.
On October 25, 2021, Tiffany posted a tweet on his Twitter page in support of Taiwan’s inclusion in the United Nations, stating:
” For 50 years, Taiwan has been unfairly excluded from the United Nations. This must change.
Fact: Taiwan is an independent, democratic country.
Fact: Taiwan has never been part of Communist China, even for one day.
Fact: China is China, Taiwan is Taiwan.”
In a December 2, 2021, Op-ed on Breitbart, he concluded: “It is long past time for the United States to lead by example and formally recognize Taiwan for what it is: a democratic and independent nation.”
On January 30, 2022, Tiffany sent out a tweet calling for the expulsion of the PRC ambassador to the U.S. in light of remarks the latter made threatening Taiwan.
Rep. Tiffany led a letter to President Biden by 9 Representatives urging the President to make a stop in Taiwan ahead of embarking on his upcoming trip to Asia.
