FAPA Celebrates the Taiwanese American Heritage Week of 2025

As the Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month of May comes to an end, the Formosan Association for Public Affairs (FAPA) celebrates the successful conclusion of the 26th anniversary of Taiwanese American Heritage Week (TAHW), held from May 11 to May 18, 2025. Since 1999, when President Bill Clinton designated the week following Mother’s Day as TAHW, Taiwanese Americans have come together each year to share their rich cultural heritage with the broader American public.  

For more than two decades, FAPA and its over 40 chapters nationwide have led efforts to secure official proclamations recognizing the contributions of Taiwanese Americans to the diversity and prosperity of the United States. 

This year was no exception, as FAPA once again led a nationwide campaign for TAHW Proclamations. Governors, mayors, and county executives across the country issued proclamations, while members of Congress also offered letters of recognition. 

The campaign achieved unprecedented success: 48 elected officials issued proclamations or letters of recognition, including 7 state governors, 1 state senate president, 21 city and town mayors, 4 county executives, 1 city councilor, 8 U.S. Representatives, and 6 U.S. Senators. 

In her TAHW recognition letter, Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) wrote: “From the first immigrants to today’s leaders in business, education and public service, Taiwanese-Americans exemplify resilience and innovation.” 

Senate Minority Leader Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) wrote: “I am honored to celebrate the rich history of [the Taiwanese American] community throughout the United States and to recognize the impactful work of FAPA, its leadership, and members.” 

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine wrote: “We extend our gratitude to the Taiwanese [American] community for their efforts to showcase their heritage and to increase the awareness of Taiwanese Americans’ historic past.” 

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer wrote: “Michigan is made stronger by the countless contributions of Taiwanese Americans across our state.”  

Maryland Governor Wes Moore wrote: “Taiwanese Americans have made enormous contributions to the diversity and prosperity of American society, consistently contributing to the promotion of democracy and security of their homeland.” 

FAPA National President Dr. Su-Mei Kao stated, “Taiwanese American Heritage Week is not only a time to celebrate our cultural roots and honor the stories of our immigrant families, but also a valuable opportunity to share the richness of Taiwanese heritage and culture with the broader American public. It is through this recognition that we strengthen the sense of identity among Taiwanese Americans and foster deeper, lasting understanding within the diverse mosaic of American society.”

FAPA 慶祝 2025 年「台美人傳統週」圓滿落幕

隨著每年五月的美國「亞太裔傳統月」（Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month）即將結束，台灣人公共事務會 (FAPA) 慶祝第 26 屆「台美人傳統週」（Taiwanese American Heritage Week, TAHW）於 2025 年 5 月 11 日至 5 月 18 日順利舉行、圓滿落幕。自 1999 年柯林頓總統將母親節後的一週指定為台美人傳統週以來，台美人社群年年攜手合作，向美國社會各界分享其深厚且多元的文化傳承。 

二十多年來，FAPA 及其全美超過40個分會，持續積極推動各地政府發布正式公告，以表彰台美人對美國多元社會與繁榮發展所做出的重大貢獻 。 

今年也不例外，FAPA 再度發起全國性倡議行動，成功促成多位州長、市鎮長與郡長發布「台美人傳統週」公告，並獲得多位美國國會議員發函表達支持與肯定 。 

今年的倡議成果創下歷年新高：全美共有 48 位民選官員發布公告或祝賀信函，包括 7 位州長、1 位州參議院議長、21 位市鎮長、4 位郡長、1 位市議員、8 位聯邦眾議員、以及 6 位聯邦參議員。 

在祝賀信中，聯邦參議員達克沃斯（Tammy Duckworth, D-IL）寫道：「從最早期的移民到今日在商業、教育與公共服務領域的領袖們，台美人始終展現出堅韌與創新的精神。」 

聯邦參議院民主黨領袖舒默（Chuck Schumer, D-NY）表示：「我很榮幸能慶祝台美人社群在美國的悠久歷史，並表彰 FAPA 及其領導團隊與全體會員所做出的重要且深具影響力的貢獻。」 

俄亥俄州州長狄懷恩（Mike DeWine）表示：「我們感謝台美人社群展現其文化傳統，並提升社會大眾對台美人歷史的認識。」 

密西根州長惠特梅爾（Gretchen Whitmer）指出：「台美人對密西根州各地做出了無數貢獻，讓我們的州更加繁榮與強盛。」 

馬里蘭州州長摩爾（Wes Moore）則強調：「台美人為美國社會的多元與繁榮做出了重大貢獻，且持續不懈地為促進其家鄉——台灣的民主與安全而努力。」 

FAPA 總會會長林素梅博士表示：「『台美人傳統週』不僅是我們慶祝文化根源、緬懷移民家庭故事的重要時刻，亦是向美國大眾分享台灣豐富多元文化的珍貴契機。透過這樣的活動，我們不僅強化台美人自身的族群認同，也為美國多元社會注入更多理解與凝聚的力量。」
