View from Capitol Hill Series
For FAPA Member Only
Come and meet long-time Taiwan supporter: California Democrat Brad Sherman.
On May 28, 2021, Rep. Brad Sherman (D-CA) – together with Rep. Steve Chabot (R-OH) – introduced a ground-breaking piece of pro-Taiwan legislation: the “Taiwan Diplomatic Review Act.”
The bill -for instance- seeks to rename Taiwan’s de facto embassy in the United States from Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office (TECRO) to Taiwan Representative Office (TRO).
Reps. Sherman and Chabot were also behind the Taiwan Travel Act that was signed into law by President Trump on March 16, 2018.
When Taiwanese Americans hosted a welcome dinner for Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen in Los Angeles in 2016, Rep. Sherman said that President Tsai should be invited to come to Capitol Hill to address a joint session of Congress.
During the Asian Subcommittee hearing on March 19, 2021, the Congressman suggested that Taiwan’s foreign minister Joseph Wu be invited to a committee hearing – “virtually” if necessary.
Come join this exciting 3rd installment of “The View from Capitol Hill” on July 17 and show the Congressman our passion and love for Taiwan.
Feel free to submit your questions to the Congressman beforehand HERE.
- The event is for FAPA members only. If you are not an active FAPA member, please applying or renewing your membership before registering for the event.
